DESCRIPTION:Bear Lake\, also referred to as Bear Creek Lake\, covers 500 acres and features 13 miles of shoreline. Bear Lake was created in the 1950s by damming the east fork of the Tuckasegee River to provide hydroelectric power for the area. Today\, it is considered one of the cleanest lakes in Western North Carolina. Bear Lake is regularly stocked with fish by the North Carolina Wildlife Commission. \nThe lake provides the perfect sea kayaking day trip for all paddling skill levels. Enjoy a shore lunch surrounded by the mountains of the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forest. In the warmer months\, the lake sees more motor boat action\, which is why we only offer this great trip during the spring and fall months! \nLed by Headwaters Outfitters Paddling Guide\, enjoy a island shore lunch surrounded by the mountains of the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forest. \nThe trip is an out-and-back (5 miles total) to the cove of Sols Creek Waterfall\, with an optional 15 min. Intermediate Hike to the base of the waterfall. \nReservations are required. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Fork’s Foundation Class! This course is designed to lay a strong foundation in fly fishing\, specifically curated for 10-16 year anglers. Students will enjoy a full day of fun\, hands-on instruction\, led by Headwaters’ experienced and licensed fly fishing guides. Diving into basic entomology\, casting lessons\, fish identification and fish handling ethics\, gear overview\, rigging and more. Students will leave the day with a solid grasp of fly fishing “101’s” and be on their way to becoming an independent angler. \n\n\n\nWhat’s included\n\nAll Gear Needed for the day and some educational take home materials! \n\n\n\nWhat’s not included\n\nNC Fishing License for Anglers 16 and older. Our Headwaters Community Hikes are a great way to meet fellow outdoor lovers and enjoy the magic of the mountains — no planning required. \n Trip Includes:\n•    Guided hike to one or more scenic waterfalls\n•    Transportation to and from the trailhead\n•    Fun\, friendly group atmosphere \n Possible Locations:\nOur hikes may take place in Pisgah National Forest\, Nantahala National Forest\, DuPont State Recreational Forest\, or Gorges State Park\, depending on conditions and group preferences. \n Hike Info:\n•    Difficulty: Easy to Moderate\n•    All experience levels welcome\n•    Group size: Minimum 4 / Maximum 12\n•    A second guide joins the fun if more than 6 people register \n Cost: $40.00 per person (includes transportation) \n Space is limited! Please be advised that community hikes require a minimum of 4 participants to proceed. If fewer than 4 individuals register\, the hike will be canceled with a 24-hour notice. DESCRIPTION:About This Event:\n\nThe most exciting competition in town! Proceeds from the race support needed river accesses and log jam clearing projects to keep the French Broad River open to all users.\nThe Hellbender Relay Canoe Race is part of the Upper French Broad Riverfest!\nSaturday\, June 21st 2025\n\nImportant Information:1. “20 Miler Relay Race” limited to 15 Teams2. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required3. Check in Location & Time starts at 9:15am at Headwaters Outfitters. Teams must check in 45 min. prior to their start time.4. Race will start promptly at 10am5. Lifejackets are required to be worn for the entire race (teams will be disqualified if lifejackets are not worn).6. All teams are required to use Headwaters canoes provided. You can bring your own paddles and wear your own PFD.\n\n\nRules & Guidelines:1. Each “20 Miler” relay team is made of up to 4 paddlers\, broken down into pairs for each section of the race.2. “20 Miler” Race will consist of two 10 mile sections. At the halfway point\, teams can switch out paddlers· First Section: Headwaters Outfitters in Rosman\, NC to Island Ford River Access~ 11 miles total· Team Exchange at Island Ford River Access· Second Section: Island Ford River Access to Hap Simpson River Park~ 9 miles3. Transportation to race points can be provided\, or teams can provide their own.4. At the end of the race paddlers will be transported back to Headwaters Outfitters.5. The After Party starts at 2:00pm at the Forks of the River Taproom. The Awards Ceremony will start when enough teams arrive on site.
