Proceeds from the race support needed river accesses and log jam clearing projects to keep the French Broad River open to all users.\nThe Hellbender Relay Canoe Race is part of the Upper French Broad Riverfest!\nSaturday\, June 21st 2025\n\nImportant Information:1. “20 Miler Relay Race” limited to 15 Teams2. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required3. Check in Location & Time starts at 9:15am at Headwaters Outfitters. Teams must check in 45 min. prior to their start time.4. Race will start promptly at 10am5. Lifejackets are required to be worn for the entire race (teams will be disqualified if lifejackets are not worn).6. All teams are required to use Headwaters canoes provided. You can bring your own paddles and wear your own PFD.\n\n\nRules & Guidelines:1. Each “20 Miler” relay team is made of up to 4 paddlers\, broken down into pairs for each section of the race.2. “20 Miler” Race will consist of two 10 mile sections. At the halfway point\, teams can switch out paddlers· First Section: Headwaters Outfitters in Rosman\, NC to Island Ford River Access~ 11 miles total· Team Exchange at Island Ford River Access· Second Section: Island Ford River Access to Hap Simpson River Park~ 9 miles3. Transportation to race points can be provided\, or teams can provide their own.4. At the end of the race paddlers will be transported back to Headwaters Outfitters.5. DESCRIPTION:Support the health and future of the Upper French Broad River\, by volunteering for our Annual Upper French Broad River Clean Up Day!\nThe French Broad River Clean-Up remains the best volunteer gig in town! Since the inception of “The Upper French Broad River Clean Up Day” in 1992\, the annual river clean-up has netted more than 3\,500 garbage bags\, 4\,500 old tires and roughly 15 additional tons of trash along the upper French Broad. Over 3\,000 volunteers have participated in the event\, many of them returning year after year.\n\nVolunteers show up at Headwaters Outfitters at 9:00 am. Everyone will be assigned Headwaters Outfitters canoes (2 people max per canoe\, no kayaks please)\, paddles\, life jackets\, and garbage bags. Participants should bring sturdy gloves\, river shoes\, and tools such as trash grabbers or long-handled barbecue tongs to grab trash with. It’s always a good idea to bring a change of clothing for afterwards! After a light complimentary sponsored breakfast\, volunteers will hit the river to collect as much trash as they can.\n\nVolunteers need to have solid paddling skills\, be team players\, and be ready to get dirty and work hard. Headwaters Outfitters will provide transportation to and from the river for the start and end of the day. Once back at the shop\, a sponsored lunch will be provided thanks to generous donations from community members and businesses.\n\nAnyone who would like to donate funds can send a check to the Headwaters Outfitters\, P.O. DESCRIPTION:One of the most common questions is\, “What fly do I use?” This course will teach you how to select a fly to match the situation. It will present the different types of food sources and which flies match them. There will also be an in depth look into reading trout behavior to discern which fly and rig to use. In addition\, one will learn how environmental factors influence fly selection. Finally\, one will learn which type of flies to use for various conditions and insects.\n\nThis class is the fist class of a two part series on trout flies. The second part is Angler Entomology. Together\, one will learn how to select a fly and the flies to match individual hatches one can expect in WNC.\n\nLength- 3-4 Hours\nCost: $40 per person

Enjoy a two-night stay in a riverfront cabin along the picturesque French Broad River\, complemented by two days of guided fly fishing—one full day and one half day. \nYour culinary needs will be met with delicious farm-to-table meals catered by Local Harvester\, featuring breakfast\, lunch\, and dinner. Please note that dinner is not provided on Saturday evening; however\, we will recommend local restaurants where you may secure reservations. \nCheck-in is scheduled for Friday\, February 14th in the afternoon\, with check-out on Sunday\, February 16th.
