SUMMARY:Annual Upper French Broad River Clean Up Day
DESCRIPTION:Support the health and future of the Upper French Broad River\, by volunteering for our Annual Upper French Broad River Clean Up Day!\nThe French Broad River Clean-Up remains the best volunteer gig in town! Since the inception of “The Upper French Broad River Clean Up Day” in 1992\, the annual river clean-up has netted more than 3\,500 garbage bags\, 4\,500 old tires and roughly 15 additional tons of trash along the upper French Broad. Over 3\,000 volunteers have participated in the event\, many of them returning year after year.\n\nVolunteers show up at Headwaters Outfitters at 9:00 am. Everyone will be assigned Headwaters Outfitters canoes (2 people max per canoe\, no kayaks please)\, paddles\, life jackets\, and garbage bags. Participants should bring sturdy gloves\, river shoes\, and tools such as trash grabbers or long-handled barbecue tongs to grab trash with. It’s always a good idea to bring a change of clothing for afterwards! After a light complimentary sponsored breakfast\, volunteers will hit the river to collect as much trash as they can.\n\nVolunteers need to have solid paddling skills\, be team players\, and be ready to get dirty and work hard. Headwaters Outfitters will provide transportation to and from the river for the start and end of the day. Once back at the shop\, a sponsored lunch will be provided thanks to generous donations from community members and businesses.\n\nAnyone who would like to donate funds can send a check to the Headwaters Outfitters\, P.O. DESCRIPTION:This course teaches you how to select a fly to match what the trout are eating. The course will be a combination of classroom and practical field sampling focusing on insect hatches that produce selective feeding. In the classroom\, you will learn about the “five seasons” and the active insects during each season. In addition\, you will learn the conditions for each season\, when to fish\, and what type of water to focus on. One will also learn about the types of flies for various hatch stages and how to select flies to best match the hatch and how to present them. On the river\, you will learn sampling techniques and collecting information to identify hatches. Each participant will receive a copy of The Hatches of Pisgah Forest for reference. This class is the second of a two part series. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun fall-themed ladies’ night! Ashley Bartol will guide you through a sweater pumpkin craft for you to use as a decoration. Please bring a sweater you are willing to cut up. Ashley will provide the rest and she does have a few spare sweaters if you need one. We are also going to do a small fashion clothing exchange. Bring 1-5 cold weather clothing items such as sweaters\, flannels\, light jackets\, or beanies (in good condition). At the end of the swap\, you can either take your items that didn’t get taken home or we will donate the rest. We will also have apple cider mimosas on special and\, as always\, beer\, wine\, CBD beverages\, and craft sodas. Feel free to bring something to eat! Registration is required to participate in the pumpkin craft since space and materials are limited.

We are pivoting this year’s festival. The Friday portion will unfortunately be cancelled\, as our staff and local fly tiers are still boots on the ground in recover efforts. We know we can not bring the Friday evening portion to life the way it deserves.\n\n\n\nSATURDAY- WILL NOW BE FREE ENTRY which includes music\, seminars\, and a limited number of fishing focused vendors. Limited tickets will be available so be sure to register.\n\n\n\nOur focus will be to support these fly shops and guide services and help them recover from damages and losses. We will be hosting information booths for all area fly shops and guide services who wish to participate. You will have a chance to support these small businesses\, and for every $50 you spend booking trips\, purchasing online orders and/or gift cards\, you receive raffle tickets to enter 2-3 incredible fishing trips that have been donated. SUMMARY:Guided Bear Lake Kayaking Trip
DESCRIPTION:Bear Lake\, also referred to as Bear Creek Lake\, covers 500 acres and features 13 miles of shoreline. Bear Lake was created in the 1950s by damming the east fork of the Tuckasegee River to provide hydroelectric power for the area. Today\, it is considered one of the cleanest lakes in Western North Carolina. Bear Lake is regularly stocked with fish by the North Carolina Wildlife Commission. \nThe lake provides the perfect sea kayaking day trip for all paddling skill levels. Enjoy a shore lunch surrounded by the mountains of the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forest. In the warmer months\, the lake sees more motor boat action\, which is why we only offer this great trip during the spring and fall months! \nLed by Headwaters Outfitters Paddling Guide Danielle Matthews Ennis\, enjoy a island shore lunch surrounded by the mountains of the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forest. \nThe trip is an out-and-back (5 miles total) to the cove of Sols Creek Waterfall\, with an optional 15 min. Intermediate Hike to the base of the waterfall. \n \nReservations are required. There is a minimum of 3 and maximum of 8 guest per trip. \nShuttle: Average 45 minutes one way. On the water around 10:30pm.\nDepart from Headwaters at 9:15am and return by 3:30-4:00pm. \nLunch is provided. Please let us know if you have any dietary needs or restrictions upon booking. \nWhat to bring:\nDress in layers\, with quick dry material preferred. Rain/ wind outer shell is good. Light hiking shoes along with a water shoe/ sandal\, some folks maybe able to hike and boat in one style. DESCRIPTION:Every October\, Headwaters Outfitters offers its ever-popular fall series of guided canoe trips on the French Broad River. Our “Colors of the Fall” guided paddling trips balance nature observation with the quiet relaxation of a canoe or kayak outing. You will paddle 8 miles\, approximately 3 hours down Section 1\, a very peaceful yet lively section of the historic French Broad River. \nParticipants begin arriving at Headwaters Outfitters around 9:30 am to complete check-in\, meet the river guide and organize gear for their canoe trip. At 10:00 am we begin our trip with a short 2-mile shuttle to our private launch point in Rosman\, NC. Your guide will review and demonstrate paddling tips and techniques before launching. Along the way\, you can listen to historical stories of the French Broad and our community\, discover wildlife\, flora\, fauna\, and waterfowl that make their homes along this beautiful river. \nADVANCE RESERVATION & DEPOSIT REQUIRED. \nOur Color of Fall Guided Paddling Trips fills up rapidly and months in advance. Each river trip is limited to 10 people max per Guide .
