Known as "Painter-town", Panthertown Valley is the Yosemite of the East and home to the Headwaters of the Tuckasegee River. Here you can find our only true Native trout species, the Appalachian Brook Trout. Size does not matter here, these beautifully colored fish average 5-7". Panthertown is a high elevation bog with lots of waterfalls. We recommend you check out the area with a guide first. You will be hiking in and moving a lot, so it is easy to lose your sense of direction.
