SUMMARY:Guided Bear Lake Kayaking Trip
DESCRIPTION:Bear Lake\, also referred to as Bear Creek Lake\, covers 500 acres and features 13 miles of shoreline. Bear Lake was created in the 1950s by damming the east fork of the Tuckasegee River to provide hydroelectric power for the area. Today\, it is considered one of the cleanest lakes in Western North Carolina. Bear Lake is regularly stocked with fish by the North Carolina Wildlife Commission. \nThe lake provides the perfect sea kayaking day trip for all paddling skill levels. Enjoy a shore lunch surrounded by the mountains of the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forest. In the warmer months\, the lake sees more motor boat action\, which is why we only offer this great trip during the spring and fall months! \nLed by Headwaters Outfitters Paddling Guide\, enjoy a island shore lunch surrounded by the mountains of the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forest. \nThe trip is an out-and-back (5 miles total) to the cove of Sols Creek Waterfall\, with an optional 15 min. Intermediate Hike to the base of the waterfall. \nReservations are required. There is a minimum of 3 and maximum of 8 guest per trip. \nOffered in Spring and Fall on Thursday’s. \nPlease email for info@headwatersoutfitters.com for private group trip inquiries and availability. \nShuttle: Average 45 minutes one way.\nDepart from Headwaters at 9:15am and return by 3:30-4:00pm. \nLunch is provided\, let your guide know if you have any dietary restrictions. \nWhat to bring:\nDress in layers\, with quick dry material preferred. DESCRIPTION:Support the health and future of the Upper French Broad River\, by volunteering for our Annual Upper French Broad River Clean Up Day!\nThe French Broad River Clean-Up remains the best volunteer gig in town! Since the inception of “The Upper French Broad River Clean Up Day” in 1992\, the annual river clean-up has netted more than 3\,500 garbage bags\, 4\,500 old tires and roughly 15 additional tons of trash along the upper French Broad. Over 3\,000 volunteers have participated in the event\, many of them returning year after year.\n\nVolunteers show up at Headwaters Outfitters at 9:00 am. Everyone will be assigned Headwaters Outfitters canoes (2 people max per canoe\, no kayaks please)\, paddles\, life jackets\, and garbage bags. Participants should bring sturdy gloves\, river shoes\, and tools such as trash grabbers or long-handled barbecue tongs to grab trash with. It’s always a good idea to bring a change of clothing for afterwards! After a light complimentary sponsored breakfast\, volunteers will hit the river to collect as much trash as they can.\n\nVolunteers need to have solid paddling skills\, be team players\, and be ready to get dirty and work hard. Headwaters Outfitters will provide transportation to and from the river for the start and end of the day. Once back at the shop\, a sponsored lunch will be provided thanks to generous donations from community members and businesses.\n\nAnyone who would like to donate funds can send a check to the Headwaters Outfitters\, P.O. SUMMARY:Guided Bear Lake Kayaking Trip
DESCRIPTION:Bear Lake\, also referred to as Bear Creek Lake\, covers 500 acres and features 13 miles of shoreline. Bear Lake was created in the 1950s by damming the east fork of the Tuckasegee River to provide hydroelectric power for the area. Today\, it is considered one of the cleanest lakes in Western North Carolina. Bear Lake is regularly stocked with fish by the North Carolina Wildlife Commission. \nThe lake provides the perfect sea kayaking day trip for all paddling skill levels. Enjoy a shore lunch surrounded by the mountains of the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forest. In the warmer months\, the lake sees more motor boat action\, which is why we only offer this great trip during the spring and fall months! \nLed by Headwaters Outfitters Paddling Guide Danielle Matthews Ennis\, enjoy a island shore lunch surrounded by the mountains of the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forest. \nThe trip is an out-and-back (5 miles total) to the cove of Sols Creek Waterfall\, with an optional 15 min. Intermediate Hike to the base of the waterfall. \n \nReservations are required. There is a minimum of 3 and maximum of 8 guest per trip. \nShuttle: Average 45 minutes one way. On the water around 10:30pm.\nDepart from Headwaters at 9:15am and return by 3:30-4:00pm. \nLunch is provided. Please let us know if you have any dietary needs or restrictions upon booking. \nWhat to bring:\nDress in layers\, with quick dry material preferred. Rain/ wind outer shell is good. Our “Colors of the Fall” guided paddling trips balance nature observation with the quiet relaxation of a canoe or kayak outing. You will paddle 8 miles\, approximately 3 hours down Section 1\, a very peaceful yet lively section of the historic French Broad River. \nParticipants begin arriving at Headwaters Outfitters around 9:30 am to complete check-in\, meet the river guide and organize gear for their canoe trip. At 10:00 am we begin our trip with a short 2-mile shuttle to our private launch point in Rosman\, NC. Your guide will review and demonstrate paddling tips and techniques before launching. Along the way\, you can listen to historical stories of the French Broad and our community\, discover wildlife\, flora\, fauna\, and waterfowl that make their homes along this beautiful river. \nADVANCE RESERVATION & DEPOSIT REQUIRED. \nOur Color of Fall Guided Paddling Trips fills up rapidly and months in advance.
